Gravitis Bungees: The Breakthrough Tool Behind Freestyle Progression
Used worldwide and quickly recognized as a mandatory tool in riders’ minds and riders’ videos, Gravitis Bungees represented a breakthrough innovation in freestyle action sports. From snowboard urban spots to skate, skimboard, and ski practice, this elastic-powered launch system shaped progression, contests, and iconic video parts across the global scene.
The concept was simple but revolutionary: the rider halts, secures the bungee, stretches it, and releases—launching toward gaps, rails, or kickers with explosive acceleration.
The genius of the system lay in Grippaldi’s core idea: NOT attaching the bungee straight to the board, but using a separate handle, making it compatible with any board in any sport—skateboarding, snowboarding, skimboarding, and more.
First introduced alongside skimboards at ISPO Munich in 2006, it was patented by Dr. Grippaldi in Italy and Germany in 2007. His design featured a braided elastic rope, secure webbing loops, and a rigid PVC handle for superior control and safety.
In 2008, Banshee Riverboards showcased a similar product at the ISPO Brand New Award, but following a patent dispute by Grippaldi, it failed to reach the finals. While Banshee Bungees eventually disappeared, Gravitis Bungees achieved global distribution, reaching action‑sport shops and continents worldwide.
Despite production ending around 2016 to finance other ventures , the legacy of Gravitis lives on—riders still mention it with reverence online, and its role is considered mandatory for bungee-assisted video parts, “in the minds of riders” and in the footage they create .
During its peak, Gravitis evolved to include a tubing-integrated model, further improving safety and durability, cementing its place not just as a product, but as a tool of progression and creativity across disciplines.
